01Start with the business
Before deciding what the website should look like, I need to understand what the business does, who it serves and what customers need to know. The visual direction should support that instead of competing with it.
About Soulsite Studio
I’m Lucas, the designer and developer behind Soulsite Studio.
I plan, design and build custom websites for small businesses that want something more thoughtful than a recycled template but do not need the layers, overhead or dramatic presentation of a large agency.
When you work with Soulsite Studio, you work directly with me.

How this started
The spacing. The colours. The wording. The way a page flows. The tiny detail that most people might not be able to identify but still makes the whole thing feel less polished.
I’ve always had that kind of mind.
I tend to examine how things work, why they were made a certain way and whether there’s a better way to put the pieces together. That attention to detail can absolutely turn into perfectionism if I let it, but it’s also one of the main reasons web design fits me so well.
Soulsite Studio came from wanting to build websites that feel connected to the businesses behind them.
Not just websites that technically function. Not just websites that follow whatever design trend is everywhere that month. Websites that communicate clearly, feel considered and make the business look closer to the quality it actually provides.
A lot of small businesses end up stuck between two options.
They can use a cheap premade template that looks like countless other websites, or they can hire a large agency whose pricing and process were built for much larger companies.
Soulsite Studio is meant to sit somewhere more useful in the middle.
You get custom planning, design and development with direct communication and a scope based on what the business actually needs.
The goal is not to imitate a large agency. It’s to provide thoughtful work without all the extra layers.
How I think about design
01Before deciding what the website should look like, I need to understand what the business does, who it serves and what customers need to know. The visual direction should support that instead of competing with it.
02A visitor should not have to investigate the website like they’re solving a mystery. The structure and calls to action should make it clear where to go and what to do next.
03Following good design principles does not mean every website needs to look the same. The colours, typography, imagery, layout and tone should make sense for the specific business.
04Typography, spacing, mobile behaviour, button states, forms and loading speed are not the glamorous parts of a portfolio presentation. They still affect how professional the website feels, so they matter.
Modern tools, human direction
AI is part of how I research, plan, write, test and develop more efficiently.
It helps me explore ideas, speed up repetitive work and accomplish things that would have required a much larger team not long ago.
But efficiency is not the same as handing over every decision.
I still decide what fits the business, what feels right, what needs refinement and what should never make it into the final website. The strategy, judgment, taste and responsibility stay with me.
Using better tools should allow me to create better work and provide more value. It should not be an excuse to generate something generic and call it custom.
What working with me is like
You communicate with the person doing the work. There is no account manager relaying your message to a designer who then relays it to a developer. That keeps communication simpler and reduces the chance that your feedback gets distorted.
I will tell you what I genuinely think the project needs. Sometimes that may mean recommending a smaller package, removing a feature or suggesting that something wait until a later phase. I would rather build the right project than sell the largest one.
You will know what is included, what is required from you and what happens when a request changes the original scope. I am not interested in burying important limitations in vague language and bringing them up after the project begins.
“I’m still building Soulsite Studio myself.”
I’m not going to present Soulsite Studio like it’s a huge established agency with a giant team and hundreds of client projects.
It isn’t.
I’m building the business, refining the process and growing the portfolio. That also means I understand what it feels like to care deeply about an idea while having to watch the budget and make careful decisions about where the money goes.
What I can offer is direct attention, honest communication and a genuine interest in making the project as strong as I can.
A good fit
Maybe not the right fit
That does not mean either side is wrong. It just means the project is more likely to go well when the expectations and working styles fit.
A little more about me
Outside of web design, I’m usually going down a rabbit hole about psychology, philosophy, nature, off-grid living, architecture, campervans or whatever else has taken over my attention that week.
I care a lot about how environments make people feel, whether that’s a home, a landscape or a website.
I’m also building my own lifestyle brand, Boho Philosophy, which has become a very real example of how much thought I can put into a project when I care about the vision.
Possibly too much thought. But that’s a separate issue.
